Laura Brummels is hell-bent on avenging the death of a young boy-a death she could have avoided. It has imprisoned her in a prison of guilt as a result of her cooperation as a reporter with a corrupt political administration. Laura is sentenced to Aquila, a jail where no one escapes and where an annual rain floods the prison, killing everyone. And she discovers her opportunity to atone for her sins: one of the legendary guards is actually the small boy's murderer. This is her opportunity to atone for the boy's death and absolve herself of her guilt. However, she is in for a pleasant surprise in the big cell where she has been placed: another prisoner, Joseph, has survived the previous flood and has been attempting to flee Aquila before the new one arrives. He's discovered an ingenious method of removing the stones from the prison roof, but he's not alone. To accomplish, he must persuade his new cell mate to forego murder and instead choose to survive and escape alongside him.
